Quake jolts Swat, adjoining areas

ISLAMABAD: An earthquake of 5 magnitude jolted Swat and adjoining areas on Wednesday afternoon, Met office reported. The epicentre of the earthquake was in Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region and depth was 180 km.

 

Two die in Nasirabad landmine blast

DERA MURAD JAMALI: Two persons were killed in a landmine blast near the Phulaji area of Nasirabad district on Thursday. According to police sources, the victims were going on a motorcycle when it hit a a landmine planted beside the road. As a result, one person Ghulam Rasool, s/o Muhammad Ibraheem, died on the spot and Mehmood Khan was injured. The body and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Mehmood succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the heirs after completion of legal formalities. Police and Frontier Corps cordoned off the entire area and started search to trace the killers.

 

BLA commander held in Kalat

QUETTA: The Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan on Wednesday arrested a commander of a banned militant organisation, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), during a search operation in the Shekhri area of Kalat district. According to an FC spokesman, following intelligence, the FC personnel launched a search operation in the mountainous area of Shekhri during which a local BLA commander was arrested.

 

Two shot dead in Haripur

HARIPUR: Two persons were shot dead when rivals opened fire on them over a land dispute in the limits of Beer Police Station on the first day of Eid. Police officials said that Malik Iftikhar, president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Tarbela union council, was on way home along with his friend when armed assailants identified as Naeem Anwar and his three brothers opened on them in Kripliyan village. Malik Iftikhar, a resident of Khalabat Township and Ali Asghar, resident of Kripliyan, died on the spot.

 

Bahawalpur Zoo swing catches fire

BAHAWALPUR: Two operators of Bahawalpur zoo swings suffered burn injuries when the operation room of the zoo caught fire on Thursday. The swings operators Mushtaq and another person were filling petrol in the generator when a fire broke out and they sustained burn injuries. They were rushed to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital. DCO Bahawalpur Dr Ehtisham Anwar Mahaar appointed Assistant Commissioner Bahawalpur city Rao Tasleem Akhtar as an inquiry officer and sought the report in 24 hours.

 

Four killed, seven injured in Shangla road accident

BISHAM: Four persons were killed and seven others sustained injuries when a jeep plunged into a ravine near here, police sources said on Thursday. They said that one Saeedur Rehman along with his mother and other family members was on way home after visiting a hakeem in Kormang when their jeep plunged into a ravine on the Kormang Road. Saeedur Rehman, his mother, driver of the jeep and another woman were killed on the spot while seven others sustained injuries.Locals retrieved the bodies and rescued the injured who were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Bisham. Two of the injured were stated to be in a critical condition.

Three killed in Bannu

BANNU: Three persons, including a woman, were killed in separate firing incidents in the district, official sources said on Thursday. Sources said that accused identified as Nasir Khan allegedly gunned down his brother Shahid Khan and sister-in-law Naila in Khojri Babarr area of the district. Separately, armed men shot dead one Niamatullah in front of his house over a land dispute in the jurisdiction of Haved Police Station.Police registered a case against accused Zahoor and Daulat.

 

NOWSHERA: Unidentified persons shot dead an Afghan national here, police sources said on Thursday. They said that one Zahidullah told the police that unidentified persons killed his brother Qudratullah and dumped his body near the Paper Mills Colony in Amangarh.
