6,000 cops to be deployed in Lahore for security of 3,300 Eid gatherings

LAHORE: DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf has said Lahore Police have made foolproof security arrangements for Lahorites on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.

According to the plan, 6,000 police officials would be deployed for security of 3,300 gatherings. The gatherings have been categorised as A, B and C according to their sensitivity of possible terrorist attack. Out of 3,300, 2,325 mosques and 255 open spaces have been declared sensitive falling into category A and B; 162 mosques and 24 open spaces have been declared highly sensitive falling into category A.

Lahore Police have decided to conduct search and combing operations in surrounding of one kilometer of these spaces on daily basis.

During search operations, police are using android phones and bio-metric machines to ascertain identity and check details of the people. The android phones and bio-metric machines being used in search operations are connected to Crime Registration Office and have details of criminals, terrorists and suspects falling into schedule four. Bio-metric machines through latent fingerprints could detect if a person was residing under a fake identity and forged documents and having multiple identities. Twenty-seven suspects have been arrested so far in these search operations. 

Lahore Police have also decided to monitor banks, government buildings, markets, railway stations, bus terminals, schools and media houses, the places of rush during and before Eid.

They have increased patrolling in these areas and deputed officials in plain clothes besides tightening security measures. Deployment of the officials of special branch have also been enhanced. On the day of Eid, the devotees would be allowed entrance after checking at three points, physical search, checking through metal-detectors and passing through walk-through gates.

Quick Response Force, Police Response Unit and Dolphin Squad would patrol in nearby areas of the Eid gatherings. Police have conducted meetings with administration of mosques for cooperation with police in security measures. Volunteers would also perform duties along with police at worship places. Police requested public of cooperation for security of life and property of citizens and call at Rescue 15 or SMS 3080 in case of any emergency, suspect or suspicious activity.
