Plight of Kashmiris in IHK highlighted in Geneva forum
ISLAMABAD: Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, briefed the international community in Geneva on grave human rights situation in the Indian Held Jammu and Kashmir.
Leghari who is currently visiting Geneva as the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister met the President of the Human Rights Council, President ICRC, Ambassadors based in Geneva and briefed them about the atrocities being committed by the Indian occupation forces against the defenseless people of Indian Held Jammu and Kashmir.
The alarming impact of pellet gun injuries leading to dead eyes, phenomenon on the peaceful protesters was also highlighted, stated a statement from the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations at Geneva.
He emphasized the importance of implementation of UN Security Council’s resolutions that recognize Jammu and Kashmir as disputed territory and call for a free and fair plebiscite for the realization of the right to self determination of Kashmiris.
Chairman Foreign Affairs Committee referred to the Prime Minister’s letters addressed to the UN Secretary General and the High commissioner for Human Rights to stop the brutalities of Indian security forces and to investigate the accesses committed against the people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The Special Envoy of the Prime Minister would continue to meet important dignitaries in Geneva and apprise them of the plight of the helpless Kashmiris who demand an end to the terror and violence unleashed on them by the Indian forces.
