Three more sector offices of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were demolished as the city administration’s crackdown against illegally constructed offices of the opposition party continued on Saturday.

The authorities bulldozed the sector offices in Azizabad and Liaquatabad, strongholds of the party.

As many as 56 illegally built offices have been razed and 218 others sealed in the metropolis over the past two weeks.

The crackdown against MQM offices was triggered after MQM founder Altaf Hussain made a provocative speech and anti-Pakistan slogans by phone from London at a hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club August on 22. The administration has also removed all posters and pictures of Hussain from across Karachi.

On Friday, the administration, with the help of police and Rangers, had demolished three MQM offices.

The three unit offices (159 145 and 144), which were said to have been built illegally on state land, were razed with the help of heavy machinery in the early hours of Friday morning.

One of the offices was brought down in the Dastagir area of Federal B Area’s Block 9, another in PECHS Block 6 and the third one in the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri area of New Karachi.
