ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said the country cannot afford power loadshedding for a longer period of time since the economic betterment and comfort of the common man is linked to it.
The prime minister issued instructions to officials concerned that transparency should be the characteristic of the projects to be completed in the process.
He was chairing a high-level meeting here on Wednesday at the PM House where progress on LNG power plants and Sahiwal coal power plant was reviewed from all aspects.
Sources in the PM House told The News that Nawaz Sharif directed the ministries and departments concerned to finalise all required procedures for in time commencement of work on the power plants.
Nawaz reminded that no slackness would be tolerated in attaining the targets for production of power.
The prime minister also directed to ensure observance of legal formalities in the preparatory work and agreements and to maintain transparency relating to all aspects of the projects. Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Dr Saaqib Mumtaz, additional secretary to the PM Fawad Hasan Fawad, Secretary Water and Power Younas Dhaga and high officials of the ministries concerned attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Pakhtunk- hwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai called on the prime minister. Matters relating to mutual interest and national affairs were discussed during the meeting.
