BISP assisting 5.3 million poor people: Marvi
PESHAWAR: Minister of State and Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon has lauded the services of health professionals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the war on terror.
Speaking as chief guest at the gold medal distribution ceremony at the Khyber Medical College (KMC), Peshawar, she said BISP was providing financial assistance to 5.3 million poorest of the poor and she expected the young doctors to volunteer themselves to serve the poor BISP beneficiaries.
The BISP chief said in five agencies of Fata, total eligible beneficiaries of BISP are 2,26,930. She said out of these 1,58,454 were active beneficiaries who were receiving payments while 68,476 were pending beneficiaries.
Marvi Memon said in the remaining two agencies, survey in 2010-11 under last government could not be undertaken due to security situation. She said that the new poverty survey of BISP would cover the entire Fata since the security situation had improved as a result of Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
Marvi Memon also stated that the pilot phase of new BISP’s poverty survey has started from Haripur in June 2016 where Desk Approach (Self-Registration) has been adopted. She said the pilot phase of resurvey included 16 districts across the country. Desk approach will be employed in four districts while in 12 districts, door-to-door approach will be adopted.
The BISP chief said 12 districts of door-to-door survey in pilot phase included Mohmand Agency from Fata and Frontier Region Lakki Marwat and Charsadda from KP.
