8th South Asian International Conference concludes

The Eighth South Asian International Conference (SAICON), a three-day conference aimed at developing ideas of business, economic and social sciences, concluded here on Friday. The conference was organised by the Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT).

CIIT Rector Dr Junaid Zaidi thanked the participants, which included scholars from 25 countries, for coming to Islamabad to discuss opportunities for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

During the conference, 181 research papers and talks were delivered by scholars and researchers from various countries. The conference was sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Higher Education Commission, National Testing Service and other organisations.

During the conference, Akmal Hanuk from IBFC UK, spoke on the importance of Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility from an Islamic perspective. Dr. Ahmad Jamal from Cardiff University UK, spoke on the importance of innovation from customers point of view. Samadanie Kiriwandeniya, Chairperson SANASA Development Bank, Sri Lanka, spoke on the SANASA Micro Finance Model of Sri Lanka and its relationship with sustainable development, while Prof. Du Youkang, Director Centre for South Asian Studies Fudan University, highlighted the significance and impact of China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Among the events at the conference, a colourful cultural event was also organised on Thursday that was highly appreciated by the foreigners. Live Pakistani music and sumptuous Pakistani cuisine all made the cultural night even richer.

The participants were of the view that close interactions, experience/expertise and knowledge sharing in higher education sector could be greatly helpful in addressing various issues being faced by the society.
