336 families back in N Waziristan Agency

MIRANSHAH: As many as 336 displaced families returned to hometowns in North Waziristan Agency as the return process for displaced persons restarted on Thursday after a month of delay, official sources said.  Sources said that 336 families consisting of 386 men, 463 women and 729 children returned to their villages in Ghulam Khan.  According to the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA), 50 per cent of the total displaced families have returned to their hometowns so far.

 

Two killed, one injured in Domail road accident

BANNU: Two persons were killed and one injured in a read mishap near Dandi Pul in the limits of Domail Police Station here on Thursday, official sources said.They said the deceased and injured were displaced persons from South Waziristan Agency. According to the details, two persons identified as Malay Khan and Amin Khan lost their lives while another Asghar Khan sustained injuries when a motorcar they were on board plunged into a deep ravine near Dandi Pul area in Domail. Eyewitnesses said that the driver lost control of the steering while saving a motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction.

 

Woman commits suicide in Swat

MINGORA: A woman ended her life by taking poisonous pills at Matta tehsil in Swat district on Thursday, official sources said.They said that Zenab Bibi committed suicide by taking poisonous medicines over domestic issue in Shor locality in Matta. The body after autopsy in the Saidu Sharif Hospital was handed over to the family members for burial.The police registered the case and started investigation.

 

Govt transfers senior CDA official

ISLAMABAD:  The federal government on Thursday transferred the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Member, Administration, Amer Ali Ahmad, and posted him as Joint Secretary, Establishment.Amer Ali Ahmad, a senior officer of the Pakistan Administrative Group, after relinquishing charge at CDA, has joined the new posting. Ahmad previously had acted as Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, prior to joining the CDA Board.Maroof Afzal was also transferred from the post of CDA chairman to the post of additional secretary, Establishment Division, only on Monday.

 

Agencies ordered to remain vigilant

 following rains in Punjab

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the administration and the relief agencies to remain vigilant in view of heavy rains in different cities of the province, including Lahore. He directed the staff concerned to ensure immediate disposal of water from the low-lying areas and utilise all possible resources in this regard. Shahbaz Sharif directed the administration and senior officers of the institutions concerned to supervise the work. Special steps should be taken for smooth flow of traffic, and people should not face any difficulty in this regard, he added. He said that the flow of water in rivers and rainy nullahs should be continuously monitored. He directed the authorities concerned to submit a report to the CM Office after completing the process of disposal of water.

 

Jhelum RO serves show cause notice on Imran

ISLAMABAD: Returning Officer and District Election Commissioner, Jhelum, Khursheed Alam on Thursday issued a show cause notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for violating the code of conduct and directed him to appear before him on Saturday. The returning officer of NA-63, Jhelum-II, directed Imran to appear before him in person or send his counsel to answer why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for violating the code of conduct and ECP directives. In case of failure to appear before the RO, the matter would be forwarded to the ECP, the notice said. The RO had directed Imran on August 23 to avoid holding public gatherings in Khewra, Pinawal and Jhelum city in connection with the election campaign of NA-63, but he defied the orders.

 

Six injured in Swat gas cylinder blast

MINGORA: Six persons, including women and children, suffered burn injuries after a cooking gas cylinder exploded and fire erupted at a house in Kabal tehsil in Swat district on Thursday, official sources said. They said that a gas cylinder exploded at house of one Habib Khan, injuring six persons including women and children. The injured were identified as Barkat Ali, Kiran Bibi, Robina Bibi, Gulfam Bibi, Sumaira Bibi and Zeenat Bibi.

 

Eight terrorists arrested, arms recovered

RAWALPINDI: In an Intelligence Based Operation (IBO) and a separate combing operation conducted on Thursday in Chaman on Pakistan-Afghan border, eight terrorists have been arrested. Huge cache of arms and ammo including explosives, Improvised Explosive Devices, rockets and detonators have also been recovered during the operations, an ISPR news release stated.

Rain forecast at scattered places

Islamabad: Rain thunderstorm is expected at scattered places of Punjab, Sindh, eastern Balochistan and Kashmir while at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkwa, Fata and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next24 hours. Isolated heavy fall may occur during the period. Heavy downpour may generate flash flooding in Dera Ghazi Khan divisions and eastern Balochistan. Weak seasonal Low lies over Northeast Balochistan. Wednesday’s Monsoon low over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and Adjoining Rajasthan (India) on Thursday lies over Northwest Rajasthan. Due to this low pressure monsoon currents are penetrating the country and likely to continue during next 03 to 04 days. In last 24 hours weather remained hot and humid in most parts of the country. However rain thunderstorm occurred at isolated places in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas divisions, Fata and Kashmir.
