Rawalpindi: Food Authority Rawalpindi would initiate a crackdown against those who sell out adulterated and sub-standard food items or provide unhygienic conditions to the customers in their food outlets.

The crackdown would also focus on the pharmaceutical companies that are allegedly involved in sale of spurious drugs.

The Punjab Food department has directed all the relevant authorities in the province to start action against those elements that are playing with human lives by selling sub-standard food items.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ayesha Mumtaz – the iron lady of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) as dubbed by the national media – was the person who injected new spirit to the efforts aiming at curbing the sale of adulterated and substandard food items in the province.

Coordinator of Food Authority Rawalpindi and MPA Iftikhar Ahmad Warsi said the crackdown against sale of substandard food items would be launched according to the new law framed in coordination with all the stakeholders.

He said they would also focus on the drugs and medicines because there are reports about sale of spurious drugs in the markets, adding “I appeal to all segments of the society to extend their cooperation towards the efforts to bring to book those elements who are selling substandard food products in the city.”
