Monsoon weakens

LAHORE

Partly cloudy weather with light rain at scattered places was observed in the provincial capital on Friday while MET Office forecast rain with thunderstorm for today at isolated places.

MET officials said penetration of monsoon currents had weakened in the country. They said seasonal low lay over north Balochistan while a shallow westerly wave was also affecting upper parts of the country and likely to continue for the next two to three days.

MET officials predicted mainly hot and humid weather in most parts of the country. They forecast rain-thunderstorm at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan divisions, FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rainfall was recorded in many cities, including Balakot, 62mm, DI Khan, 41 mm, Malamjabba, 26mm, Kohat, 09mm, Dir, 08mm, Parachinar, 02mm, Kakul, Pattan, Saidu Sharif and Cherat, 01mm, Bahawalnagar, 37mm, Bhakkar, 30mm, Kasur, 28mm, Murree, 18mm, Layyah, 10mm, Kamra, 02 mm, Noorpurthal, 01mm, Muzaffarabad, 10mm, Kotli, 06mm, Garhi Dupatta, 02mm, Bunji and Gilgit, 03mm, Bagrote, 02mm and Chillas, 01mm. vOn Friday, highest temperature in the country was recorded 44°C at Turbat and Nokkundi.
