Suspends CCMO; calls for immediate replenishment of medicinal stocks

Islamabad

The Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry paid a surprise visit to the Federal Government Services Hospital (Polyclinic) and suspended the Chief Casualty Medical Officer (CCMO) on account of poor disposal of medical waste in the hospital’s Emergency.

Dr. Tariq observed the waste disposal system and having used the syringe-disposal process in the Emergency, expressed dissatisfaction over non-compliance with prescribed procedures. He directed the hospital management to follow waste disposal best practices, which have been tested and adopted by the world in order to avoid the spread of controllable diseases. He visited different wards in the Emergency and inquired about the health of patients and the standard of treatment available to them at the hospital.

The minister asked for replenishment of medicinal stocks and directed that tenders be immediately issued for medicines that were out of stock in the hospital pharmacy. He also called for improved seating facilities and availability of clean drinking water to patients and their attendants.

Talking to the administrative staff and doctors, the minister said, health is a key priority of the government and efforts are being made to improve the state of government hospitals in Islamabad. He urged them to provide best possible treatment to patients within available resources.

The minister told the medical staff that the government is increasing training facilities for postgraduate doctors to encourage young professionals to hone their capabilities and build their career profile. Postgraduate doctors will be attached to primary healthcare units in the suburbs of the city on additional remuneration in order to provide best healthcare facilities to the poor at their doorsteps, he added.
