Karachi

The paramilitary force said four alleged terrorists belonging to a group of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed in a shootout on the outskirts of the city in the wee hours of Thursday.

The spokesman for the Sindh Rangers said paramilitary soldiers conducted an intelligence-based operation against a group of hardcore terrorists in the Khairabad area of the Manghopir police remit.

The raid followed reports that some terrorists were planning to carry out a terrorist activity on the eve of August 14 in Karachi.

During the raid, the terrorists opened fire, which was retaliated and two terrorists were killed.

However, associates of the dead terrorists fled taking advantage of darkness.

The soldiers cordoned off the area and called for reinforcements. During the ensuing fire exchange, two fleeing terrorists were killed and weapons were found on them.

Paramilitary soldiers conducted raids in Korangi, City Town and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and arrested seven criminals affiliated with banned organisations. A large quantity of Illegal weapons and ammunition were said to have been seized.
