Suspects of 2011 attack on LEAs remanded in police custody
Karachi
The administrative judge of anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday handed over two suspects, Fazal Khaliq and Shair Ali, to the police on physical remand till August 17 in the 2011 murder case of two Rangers personnel and a traffic policeman.
After producing the suspects before the administrative judge of the ATC concerned, the investigation officer (IO) informed the court that the suspects were involved in attacking the Rangers and a traffic police checkpoint in Gulzar-e-Hijri area in December 2011. The attack had claimed the lives of two Rangers men, Enayat and Hakim, and a traffic police sub-inspector, Qamar-ud-din Peerzada.
The IO requested the judge to remand the suspects into the police custody, saying that the accused were required to be interrogated in order to trace their connections and locate whereabouts of their absconding accomplices.
Accepting the IO’s request, the court remanded both the accused into police custody till August, 17.
The suspects are said to have attacked two checkpoints, which were located close to each other, on December 10, 2011 and gunned down two personnel of the paramilitary force and a traffic policeman.
ASI Khadim and a passer-by, Salman, also sustained injuries in the attack. The case was registered under sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
‘TTP men’ remanded
An ATC on Friday also handed over three alleged activists of Tehreek-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), including two potential suicide bombers, to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on 14-day physical remand in cases pertaining to attacking a police party with murder intention, carrying illicit weapons and explosives materials.
Amid high security, police officials produced Saif-ur-Rehman alias Buddah, Taj Muhammad and Adil before the administrative judge of the ATC concerned to get their custody.
The investigation officer (IO) informed the court that the suspects were arrested after an encounter conducted in the Manghopir area on Thursday. The law enforcers claimed to have found pistols, hand grenades and suicide jackets on the suspects.
The accused were said to be affiliated with the TTP’s Swat group and were allegedly involved in many heinous crimes but they were remanded in cases pertaining to attacking law enforcers with an intention to kill, carrying weapons without license and explosives materials.
The IO added that the two of the arrested men were potential suicide bombers and requested the judge to remand the suspects into their custody as they were required for interrogation.
While accepting his request, the judge allowed the investigators to keep all the three accused with them on physical remand till August 18.
