ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif paid tributes to the services of Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan for the cause of Kashmir and said that the late Sardar had an illustrious political career and maintained close contacts with the Kashmiri people.
Nawaz visited the residence of Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan at Ghazi Abad in Dhir Kot (Azad Kashmir) on Wednesday and extended his condolences to his son Attique Ahmed Khan. He was greeted by the people of the area who gathered at the helipad where he was received by Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leaders Sardar Farooq Haider, Chaudhary Tariq Farooq, Shah Ghulam Qadir and others.
Before returning to Islamabad, Nawaz mingled with the people who stayed in Dheer Kot as long as the prime minister was there. He offered Fateha for the departed soul. The late Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan served as the president and prime minister of Azad Kashmir. Nawaz expressed his heartfelt condolences on his demise and recalled his services and struggle for the Kashmiri people. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Governor GB Chaudhary Muhammad Birjees Tahir and Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Political Affairs Dr Syed Asif Saeed Kirmani accompanied the prime minister.
