Heavy rain causes traffic jams

LAHORE

Heavy but patchy rain hit the provincial capital Thursday, causing traffic jams and trouble for citizens living in low-lying localities. 

Metrological Department officials recorded 20mm rain at Lahore Airport while 18mm in city areas.

The rain was witnessed at different times of day following which traffic jams continued to occur from morning till evening on The Mall, Railway Station, Urdu Bazaar, Delhi Gate, Do Moria Pull, Gulberg, Jail Road and other city areas.

Following the rain, humidity level went up to 62 per cent while maximum temperature in the city was recorded as 32 C.

Metrological Department officials said seasonal low lies over northeast-Balochistan and its adjoining area, with its trough extending south eastward.

They said monsoon currents were penetrating upper and central parts of the country. They added that a westerly wave was also affecting upper parts of the country and likely to persist during next two days.

Met officials predicted rain-thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls at scattered places in Zhob, Kalat, Nasirabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Hyderabad divisions, Punjab, KP, Islamabad, FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Light rain is also expected along Sindh-Makran coast.

Rain was also witnessed in other cities including Faisalabad (37 mm), Layyah (33 mm), Kot addu (26 mm), Sargodha (24 mm), Gujrat (16 mm), Multan (14 mm), Mandibahauddin (10 mm), Sialkot (AP 06 mm, City 02 mm), Gujranwala (03 mm), Dera Ghazi Khan and Kasur (02 mm), Chakwal and Sahiwal (01 mm each), Khuzdar (29 mm), Sibbi (13 mm), Barkhan (06 mm), Zhob (02 mm), Rawalakot (16 mm), Kotli (01 mm), Dera Ismael Khan (DIK) (07 mm), Lower Dir (03 mm), Peshawar, Malamjabba, Pattan and Balakot (01 mm each), Gupis and Hunza (05 mm), Bunji and Gilgit (03 mm), Skardu (02 mm), Jaccobabad (03 mm) and Moenjodaro (01 mm).
