National Minorities Day to be celebrated on August 11

On the occasion of National Minorities Day being celebrated in the country on the August 11, 2016, the Federal Ministry of Human Rights is conducting National Minorities Sports Festival.
National Minorities Day got official recognition in 2009 by the efforts of former Minister of Minorities Affairs Shehbaz Bhatti who was killed on March 2, 2011.
The festival will start from the August 7 and will end on August 11, 2016. The activities will be held in Sports Complex, Jinnah Stadium here.
The Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Kamran Michael explained that National Minorities Day is celebrated on August 11 which will be preceded by the sports festival. He invited all minorities to attend the event and register their teams. He further explained that a committee has been formed to oversee the event and facilitate the participating teams.
Categories in the Minorities Sports Festival include football, cricket, basketball, body building, athletics, badminton and tug of war. Registrations are free of cost and open till the July 30.
