DC says he was threatened by advocate
NOWSHERA: Lawyers observed boycott of the courts and staged protest demonstration at the Grand Trunk (GT) Road against the raids on the residence of a lawyer.
District Bar Association President Ijaz Muhammad had given the call for the boycott.The protesting lawyers marched from district courts and blocked the road at the Kutchery Chowk. They asked the government to transfer Deputy Commissioner Iftikhar Alam from the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Ijaz Muhammad said that the 3-MPO had been challenged in the high court while a decision had been taken to register a case against the deputy commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner Iftikhar Alam told The News that a lawyer Fayyaz had brought to him an application against the order of Assistant Commissioner Shahana Shakir.He said the lawyer didn’t have copy of the decision but was insisting on issuance of the stay order. On my refusal to issue the order without fulfilling legal formalities, the lawyer warned me of dire consequences, the official said.
The official said that he issued warrants under 3-MPO after the lawyer threatened him. He said no one would be spared and action would be taken against all those who had taken the law into their hands.
