Standing committee discusses 22 proposed amendments to motor vehicle laws
An important meeting of the Standing Committee on Law, Parliamentary Relations and Human Rights was chaired by provincial assembly member Qasim Soomro.
The meeting discussed the Sindh Motor Vehicle Act Amendment Bill 2025.
Officials said the meeting was chaired by MPA Muhammed Qasim Soomro, while the members include MPAs Saima Agha, Makhdoom Fakhar Zaman, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Maleeha Manzoor, Heer Soho, and Nada Khuhro, the additional chief secretary of the home department, the law secretary, Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon and others.
The Karachi Traffic DIG gave a point-to-point briefing on the proposed MV Act 2025 bill and covered details, including various references. At this, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said the bill containing the amendments draft of the MV Act should be presented soon. The proposed bill will be presented in the assembly next week.
He added that the positive and effective amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act are the need of the hour. Moreover, the bill containing the amendment draft is just the beginning, but we have to work on it on a daily basis. The purpose of the amendments to the MV Act is not to harass the citizens.
IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon said that after the regular implementation of the act, a fine will be imposed for non-compliance.
The driving licence branch is doing a good job at the national level, he said, adding that after the amendments, the traffic section will work better.
MPA Qasim Soomro said it is time to agree on positive amendments and implement them.
A total of 22 amendments were discussed in the Motor Vehicle Act amendment draft, including dangerous driving, hit-and-run, street racing, drifting, overspeeding, one-way violation, unauthorized PSV service, non-use of helmets, tinted glasses, illegal revolving lights, driving unregistered vehicles, and driving unlicensed vehicles.
