ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl Friday (JUIF) held consultations for any possible adjustments for the Senate elections slated to be held on July 21.

In this regard, a PPP delegation led by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi met the JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman at his residence here.

Kundi was accompanied by Syed Khursheed Shah and Zahir Shah, a figure in the party’s provincial setup. From JUI-F, Akram Khan Durrani, Maulana Lutfur Rehman, Maulana Asad Mahmood, Zahid Durrani and and Asjad Mahmood were present in the meeting. “The meeting held consultations with regard to the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly,” said a brief statement issued by the JUI-F spokesman. It may be pointed out that Maulana Asad also met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier this week followed by a meeting with Fazlur Rehman by a PMLN delegation led by PM’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah the same day.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kundi said dialogue was a part of the ongoing efforts to build a consensus among the opposition parties to secure more seats in the Senate elections. Kundi emphasized that during the PPP government, steps were taken to curb horse-trading in the Senate elections. He said political alliances form and dissolve frequently, citing past interactions between the PTI and Fazlur Rehman as an example of shifting loyalties.
