Pre-monsoon rain turns weather pleasant

LAHORE:Cloudy weather with scattered rain was recorded in the City here on Sunday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The pre-monsoon rain occurred in spans in various city localities bringing down the temperature to 34°C and turning the weather pleasant. Following the rain, heat-stricken people had a sigh of relief and they thronged recreational parks to enjoy pleasant weather.

On the other hand, Wasa official remained alert while Secretary Housing Noorul Amin Mengal, DG Tayyab Farid and MD Ghufran Ahmed kept on monitoring the situation. Wasa MD directed all field teams to remain active while disposal stations should be run on generators in areas with power outages occurred.

Met officials said moist currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal were penetrating upper & central parts of the country while a westerly wave was also affecting upper parts. They predicted that hot and very humid weather was likely to persist in most parts of the country. However, rain-wind/thundershower expected in Kashmir, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Upper Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan and isolated heavy fall was also likely during this period.

Rainfall was also recorded at Mangla, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Attock, Hafizabad, Murree, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lower Dir, Kakul, Peshawar, Mardan, Balakot, Kalam, Cherat, Garhi Dupatta, Muzaffarabad, Kotli and Rawalakot.

Sunday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Jacobabad where mercury reached 47°C, while in Lahore, it was 34°C. Meanwhile, the average AQI in the City was 81 while the PM2.5 concentration was 5 times the World Health Organisation annual PM2.5 guideline value.
