TANK: Steps were being taken to transform the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital into a model institution with an aim of delivering healthcare facilities to the citizens at their doorsteps, an official said on Tuesday.

“Ensuring accountability is essential for improving the system. We cannot set the system right without a proper reward and punishment mechanism,” Medical Superintendent of DHQ Dr Israr-ul-Haq told reporters.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was committed to providing all possible health facilities to the people and several tough decisions would be needed to steer the hospital in the right direction.

He urged the hospital staff to improve their conduct, warning that negligence would not be tolerated under any circumstances.“There will be no leniency for those who show carelessness,” he asserted.

Dr Israr said that the cardiology unit was also being established in Tank Hospital to provide specialised care to local residents.Acknowledging the challenges posed due to the limited resources and increasing problems, he said the steps were being taken to improve the emergency unit and activate the Health Management Committee for hospital’s betterment. The official hoped that once the hospital becomes fully functional, there would be no need to refer patients to other district hospitals.
