PTI MNA’s protective bail extended
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday extended the protective bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member National Assembly (MNA) Iqbal Afridi until June 18 and barred authorities from arresting him.
The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Dr Khurshid Iqbal of the Peshawar High Court. The petitioner’s counsel Bashir Wazir advocate informed the court that his client was a sitting MNA and that cases had been registered against him.
He prayed the court to provide details of the cases unknown to the petitioner as he wanted to appear before the relevant courts. The lawyer pleaded that there was a risk his client could be arrested before he got a chance to appear in court.
Assistant attorney general told the court that there was no case or inquiry pending against the petitioner with the Federal Investigation Agency and no report has yet been received from the federal government.
Meanwhile, counsel for National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s informed the court that they had not yet submitted their report but would do so at the next hearing. The AAG informed the court that one case had been registered against the petitioner in Dir.After arguments, the bench extended the protective bail until June 18 and sought a response from the federal government on the next hearing before adjourning the proceedings.
