The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) on Tuesday successfully completed urgent repair work on a 36-inch diameter water pipeline at the University of Karachi, restoring full functionality, a spokesperson for the corporation confirmed.
According to the spokesperson, the pipeline is now fully operational following the installation of a neck plate on the inspection tee — an essential component whose absence had led to significant leakage.
Chief Engineer WTM Syed Muhammad Ijaz revealed that during the initial dewatering process, the repair team discovered that the neck plate had been stolen by unknown miscreants. He described the act as “heinous” and said it posed a serious threat to the city’s water supply.
“This appears to be an attempt to sabotage the city’s water distribution system and create unnecessary hardship for the public,” Ijaz stated. “Such actions will not be tolerated.”
He reaffirmed the KWSC’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted water and sewerage services, adding that all available resources would be utilised to prevent further incidents of this nature.
