The National Highway is supposed to be a main artery as it not only connects Karachi with other cities, but its strategic location also makes it the most significant route for hundreds of thousands of commuters who travel on it on a regular basis. Unfortunately, various parts of the road are totally broken and are unfit to be travelled on. At several points, the road is flooded by sewerage water, while illegal construction and massive encroachments throughout create less space for vehicular movement.
Other than causing regular traffic jams during the peak hours, various joints of the highway have become ideal spots for car lifters and street criminals who find it quite easy to loot commuters and road-users amid the traffic chaos. The National Highway needs urgent repairs.
