Journalists urged to promote transparency
PESHAWAR: Adviser to Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif on Wednesday emphasized the role of local journalists, particularly working in remote areas, in promoting transparency, accountability, and public participation in governance.
He made these remarks while administering the oath to the newly elected office-bearers of the Upper Chitral District Press Club in Peshawar.Barrister Saif stated, “Journalists in remote and mountainous districts like Upper Chitral are the true custodians of grassroots democracy. Their work bridges the gap between the people and the state. The government is committed to empowering local press clubs through infrastructure support and financial sustainability.”
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Secretary Information Muhammad Khalid, Additional Secretary Information Hayat Shah, Senior officers and the newly elected office-bearers of Upper Chitral District Press Club. The newly elected office-bearers pledged to uphold professional ethics, defend press freedom, and represent the concerns of the region with integrity and courage.
Upper Chitral District Press Club President Muhammad Ali Mujahid reaffirmed the club’s commitment to making it a vibrant platform for responsible journalism that truly represents the voice of the people of Upper Chitral.
On this occasion, members of the Upper Chitral District Press Club presented a shield to Barrister Saif in recognition of his unwavering support for media development in the province and his efforts to strengthen communication between the government and the public. The journalists vowed to uphold journalistic ethics and promote press freedom.
