Hours-long power cuts, water shortage making citizens’ lives miserable: Shahzad Qureshi
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Sindh Assembly member Shahzad Qureshi has strongly reacted to the worsening civic crisis in Karachi, stating that the people are suffering under the burden of relentless power outages, an artificial water shortage, and a dangerous surge in street crime ahead of Eid.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, he said prolonged and unannounced loadshedding — ranging from 12 to 16 hours daily — has paralysed daily life in Karachi. “Children, the elderly, students, and workers alike are suffering in the extreme heat while the Sindh government remains silent and indifferent,” he added.
Qureshi further stated that an artificial water crisis has been created in the city, where the water tanker mafia is openly selling water at exorbitant prices. “Even quenching one’s thirst has become unaffordable for the poor,” he lamented.
He also expressed serious concern over the rise in incidents of mugging and theft across the city, warning that the deteriorating law and order situation could spiral further out of control as the Eid approaches.
Qureshi demanded that the Sindh government take immediate and practical steps to address these crises. “If the provincial government fails to act, it will have to face the people’s court,” he warned.
He also called upon the judiciary and the federal government to take notice of Karachi’s deteriorating conditions and ensure long-term solutions to the city’s ongoing problems.
