200 awarded degrees at AMC convocation

LAHORE:The 5th convocation of Ameer Uddin Medical College was held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal under the chairmanship of Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH), Prof Dr M Farooq Afzal while Punjab Health Adviser Dr Azhar Mehmood Kiyani graced the occasion as chief guest.

Former Health Minister Prof Javed Akram, medical educators Prof Dr Sardar Al-Fareed Zafar and Controller UHS Dr M Abbas were guests of honour. During the ceremony, degrees were conferred on 200 graduating doctors and 141 medals were awarded to high-achievers.

In his address, Health Adviser Dr Azhar Mehmood Kiyani emphasised that the Punjab government is fully committed to the promotion of medical education and ensuring the provision of state-of-the-art healthcare services. Prof Dr Farooq Afzal called on the Punjab government to address key infrastructural needs, including a dedicated building for AMC, student hostels, a parking plaza at LGH and the construction of a building to improve outpatient services. He demanded that PGMI be granted university status.
