PARACHINAR: Former federal minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) provincial vice-president Sajid Hussain Turi has criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for widespread corruption and negligence toward the merged tribal districts.

Addressing a press conference at the press club here alongside PPP workers, Sajid Turi said that development projects were virtually non-existent in tribal areas and accused the rulers of depriving underprivileged communities of their share in NFC funds and other developmental schemes.

He pointed to several major scams, including the Kohistan and the solarization scandals, as examples of deep-rooted corruption that has left ordinary citizens suffering in difficult conditions.

About the dire security situation in District Kurram, he said that the area has remained under siege for the past eight months due to unrest. He noted that although both parties involved in the conflict had demolished bunkers following the Chief Minister’s orders and voluntarily surrendered their weapons, roads remained blocked, and residents were still living in fear and uncertainty.

“People are stranded for hours and days due to closed routes. This is a mental torture for the residents of Kurram,” he added. He also criticised the blocking of passports of people seeking employment abroad, calling it a blow to already high unemployment rates in the region. Turi expressed concern that those who returned to Pakistan temporarily were now unable to go back to their workplaces abroad due to passport restrictions.Turi demanded the reopening of main highways in the region for regular public movement instead of limited convoys.
