QUETTA: Four militants have been killed in heavy exchange of fire with security forces in Musakhail district of Balochistan on Wednesday.

Security officials said that a special security team conducted an operation in Rarasham area of Musakhail district on information about the presence of terrorists planning attacks in the area.

The security team conducted an operation in the area during which a heavy exchange of fire took place between the security forces and armed militants which continued for an hour.

“In the gunbattle, four militants were killed while large quantity of arms and ammunition was seized,” a senior security official said, adding that militants wanted to plant IEDs at the main highway. They were also involved in blocking roads, killing people and attacking security personnel.

“The militants killed in the gunbattle belong to banned Baloch Liberation Army and Baloch Liberation Front,” security officials said and identified them as Narii Akbar, Saleem, Malak Ahmed and Bakht.

Official sources said that the militants killed in the operation were involved in attacking security forces check-posts, blocking road at Rarasham and killing seven civilians besides other attacks. Sources said that a search operation is continuing in the area.
