Senior KP Excise officer steps down in protest against ‘corruption’
Dr Azlan stated that it is impossible to work in system where public interest is continuously put at risk
PESHAWAR: A senior officer of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Dr. Azlan Aslam, has stepped down from his position in protest against rampant corruption, nepotism and illegal appointments within the department. He stated that it is impossible to work in a system where public interest is continuously put at risk and the institution is held hostage by corrupt elements.
Dr. Azlan Aslam, in a statement released on social media, said the “unabated corruption, mismanagement, and illegal appointments of unauthorized individuals” forced him to refuse to continue working, choosing instead to follow the voice of his conscience. He had submitted a request for transfer, which was approved, and he has now been reassigned to the Directorate General Excise. He further wrote: “I simply cannot work in a system where the safety and interests of the public are in jeopardy, and their blood is being sucked.”
Dr. Azlan Aslam’s bold stance has gone viral on social media and is being widely praised in various circles as a courageous act of resistance against systemic corruption.
