LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars’ top-order batter Abdullah Shafique expressed satisfaction over his performance after playing a pivotal role in his team’s Eliminator 1 victory against Karachi Kings in PSL 10.

His 65-run knock off 35 balls, featuring five sixes and three fours, earned him the Player of the Match award as Lahore chased down 191 with eight balls to spare. In the post-match press conference, Abdullah Shafique emphasized his commitment to helping the team succeed, acknowledging the importance of mindset and clarity in roles: “First of all, I thank Allah for giving me the opportunity to perform well. My focus is always on contributing in a way that benefits the team.”

He highlighted the significance of modern-day cricket training, stressing the role of mental strength in delivering results: “You have to train according to the requirements of modern cricket. But more than training, it’s about mindset. If the mindset is positive, results follow.”

While primarily an opening batter, Abdullah reiterated his willingness to adapt to team strategy: “I’ve played as an opener from the beginning of my career, but I always try to adjust based on the team’s needs.”

He also voiced his support for captain Shaheen Afridi, praising his leadership: “Shaheen is our leader, and we are all standing firmly with him.” With the Eliminator 2 showdown against Islamabad United on May 23, Abdullah remained confident in Lahore Qalandars’ ability to reach the final, despite fielding lapses: “We are hopeful of putting in a strong performance and qualifying for the final. Catches do get dropped—it’s part of the game. I tried to make up for the fielding mistakes with my batting.”
