Emergency preparedness session held at SBBWU
PESHAWAR: Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) Peshawar, in collaboration with Rescue 1122 Peshawar, organized an awareness session on emergency preparedness for students.
A press release issued here on Friday said the session aimed to educate students on precautionary measures during emergencies and encourage them to join Rescue 1122’s volunteer team.
District Emergency Officer Peshawar, Ghayoor Mushtaq Khan, emphasized the importance of immediate response and basic life support in emergencies such as fires, natural disasters, road accidents, and medical emergencies.
He introduced the volunteer programme, designed to provide young people, especially women, with basic safety training, including CPR, fire safety, and disaster management skills.
The official highlighted the crucial role women could play in social protection and encouraged students to participate in the programme to develop necessary skills for emergencies.He stressed the need for students and staff members to take emergency services seriously and promote awareness in their surroundings.
The session also discussed the challenges faced by Rescue 1122, including fake calls, which can prevent people in real need from accessing timely help. The Rescue 11 22 official mentioned that over 60 per cent calls received were from women. He said that the management of every organisation must ensure a timely check on the equipment functionality, particularly used in case of fire, like fire extinguishers and fire alarms, etc.
Deputy Registrar Media, Sehrish Zaffar, while speaking to the audience, said that the university planned to organize a training session for students in collaboration with Rescue 1122 to equip them with skills to handle emergencies.
