600 more ex-army men needed for CPEC projects’ security
Karachi: At Tuesday's meeting of the provincial apex committee, Corps Commander Lt General Naveed Mukhtar announced that a separate brigade had been formed to provide security to all CPEC related projects in the province.
Sharing further details, Brigadier Farhan of the CPEC brigade said that of the 38 projects in Pakistan, 13 were in Sindh and over 9,000 Chinese nationals would be working in the province in the near future.
He said these projects included those involving energy, roads and railway sectors. Besides, economic zones will be set up and the development of Gwadar port carried out.
He said there were 26 economic zones under the CPEC - of them six would be established in Sindh.
He also pointed out that there were 132 non-CPEC projects, of them 80 were government-sponsored and 80 private ones where 3,934 Chinese nationals were working.
The meeting approved a security plan for CPEC projects.
The chief minister said 2,000 ex-army men for CPEC projects would not be enough. He directed the IGP to submit a request for additional 600 personnel.
