Rising public health concerns: Crusher plants in Jamrud to be relocated
PESHAWAR: The authorities have decided to relocate all 19 crusher plants operating in Jamrud’s residential areas to a safer location outside the city, following growing concerns over environmental pollution and its adverse impact on public health. The move, approved in a meeting chaired by Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud, aims at safeguarding the wellbeing of local communities and ensuring sustainable industrial practices in the Khyber tribal district.
The decision was taken after it was noted that the presence of crusher units in close proximity to populated areas of Jamrud was contributing to air and noise pollution, as well as other civic disturbances.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Khyber district administration, Environment Department, Industries Department, Minerals Department, and representatives of crusher plant owners.
To oversee the relocation process, a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of additional deputy commissioner (General), Khyber. The committee comprises officials of all relevant departments and will submit recommendations within one week regarding a suitable and secure site outside the urban limits, equipped with proper drainage and operational facilities for the plants.
Riaz Khan Mahsud directed the committee to ensure the selected site offers all essential infrastructure to support the smooth transition. He also appreciated the cooperation extended by the crusher plant owners, who have assured their full support for the initiative in the larger public interest.
The administration confirmed that after submission of the committee’s report, practical steps would immediately be taken to shift all crusher units. Stakeholders reiterated their commitment to work in close coordination with the government for the timely and effective execution of the plan.
