This letter refers to the news report ‘Naqvi thanks Trump for truce’ (May 17, 2025). I think the US policy on the issue was clearly revealed when their vice-president unequivocally declared ‘We’re not going to get involved in the middle of a war that’s fundamentally none of our business’. However, being a great opportunist and seeing India badly beaten and seeking a ceasefire, Trump jumped in, presenting himself as a great saviour.
A better and much clearer picture of Trump emerges when looking at his role in enabling Israel to continue its genocide and blockade of Gaza, driving the region towards a famine. He has basically picked up where his predecessor left off in this regard. Trump has also seemingly floated plans to remove the Gazans from their land, which will then be converted into some sort of a resort.
