Evening buses
The University of Karachi, despite being one of Pakistan’s largest and most prominent academic institutions, continues to neglect a critical issue: the complete absence of safe and reliable transportation for its evening students. While day scholars benefit from university-operated bus services, hundreds of evening students are forced to arrange for their own transport, which is extremely costly and inconvenient and potentially dangerous. Karachi’s deteriorating law and order situation is no secret. Police reports and media coverage consistently highlight the surge instreet crimes.
Why is the university administration turning a blind eye to the risks faced by its own students? The argument that ‘resources are limited’ holds no weight when student safety is at stake. If the university can arrange transport for day scholars, why not for evening students? This is not just about convenience. It is about basic rights. Students pay fees, invest time and contribute to the university’s reputation. In return, the institution owes them a duty of care.
