QUETTA: One person was killed and 10 others were injured in a bomb attack on a rally led by the PPP Balochistan Assembly Member Haji Ali Madad Jattak here on Wednesday.
According to the police, unidentified assailants targeted the rally on the Saryab Road as it was heading towards the Hockey Ground to celebrate victory.
The blast resulted in the death of one man, Mehmood Ali, while 10 others sustained injuries. Jattak survived the attack. The deceased and injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital.
The injured were identified as Qurban Ali, Abdul Razzaq, Muhammad Asim, Muhammad Umar, Abdul Manan, Syed Naqeebullah, Imran, Muhammad Sajid, and Mehrullah.
Police later handed over the body to the victim’s family after completing medico-legal formalities. The explosion also damaged a rickshaw and several vehicles.
A contingent of police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation for the attackers.
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the incident, calling it an attack on the province’s peace.
“Targeting public leadership is an attack on the stability of Balochistan. These cowardly actions cannot shake our collective resolve,” he said.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind also condemned the attack, stating that a report had been sought.
