Rich tribute paid to Majeed Malik

A condolence reference was held at the Islamabad campus of Preston University in memory of late Lieutenant General (r) Abdul Majeed Malik, an eminent PML(N) leader and former federal minister, says a press release.

The referenced event was jointly organised by Preston University and the Archaeological and Historical Association of Pakistan (AHAP). Eminent personalities from the twin cities participated in the event. 

Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq, leader of the House in the Senate of Pakistan was conspicuous by his presence at the event. Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, federal minister for Parliamentary Affairs was the chief guest on the occasion. 

In his address on the occasion, Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq, briefly talking about the life and achievements of the late General (r) Majeed Malik was a man of principles.  He said Abdul Majeed Malik had several remarkable accomplishments to his credit. All that he had achieved in life was through his intellectual capabilities, patriotism and positive approach towards life. Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq paid glowing tributes to the former general, diplomat and politician for his mammoth contribution and remarkable achievements in every sphere of life. He said personalities like Majeed Malik are born in centuries. His death has created a vacuum that would take decades to fill. 

While paying tributes to Majeed Malik, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed profoundly eulogised the remarkable contribution that he had made towards his country as a general, ambassador and a politician.

Lieutenant General (r) Majeed Malik, he said, was politician who reshaped the political course of history not only of India but Pakistan as well and his political achievements made him a torch bearer for others. 

As an ambassador, he played a role that should be played by a representative of the country and when he joined the army, through his unparalleled dedication, integrity and wisdom, he rose to the coveted position of lieutenant general, he stated.  

Major (r) Tahir Iqbal, Member National Assembly (MNA) said that due to poor living conditions he would go to school barefoot, but due to his extraordinary abilities and dedication he became a highly successful person. 

AHAP Chairman Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi said that the government should include the achievements and contributions of personalities like Lieutenant General (r) Majeed Malik in the curriculum of educational institutions so that the future generations could know about their national heroes. 

Mr. Ghazanfar also called for a 14-kilometer road in Chakwal, the place where Lieutenant General (r) Majeed Malik was born, to be named after him as ‘Shahrah-e-Abdul Majeed Malik.’

Eminent among the other speakers who paid glowing tributes to Lieutenant General (r) Abdul Majeed Malik on the occasion were Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Zafar Bakhtawari and Qaiser Majeed Malik, Managing Director, National Education Foundation and son of Abdul Majeed Malik. 

While highlighting various facets of the life and professional career of Lieutenant General Majeed Malik the speakers said late General Malik was a brilliant student and scholarship-holder in school. He joined the British Indian Army as a sepoy/clerk after his matriculation. Later, he was commissioned as an officer in 1943. He saw action both as a soldier and as an officer on the Burma Front. 

Reminiscing the late general’s diplomatic and political career the speakers said he excelled in both. During his diplomatic assignment as the Ambassador of Pakistan to Morocco Lieutenant General (r) Majeed Malik played a pivotal role in bolstering the bilateral relations between the two countries. 

Talking about his political career, spanning over almost two decades, they said it was yet another success story. They remarked that Lieutenant General Majeed Malik’s political career too has been as eventful and successful as his career in the army and as a diplomat. He was a down-to-earth person. His love for the downtrodden people of his constituency and his earnest efforts to maintain a close rapport with them made him attain remarkable success in his political career, they stated.
