Two miners die from toxic gas in Lakhra coal mine
Concerns have been raised regarding alleged inaction of officials against companies and contractors who violate rules
SUKKUR: Tragedy struck the Lakhra coalfield near Majand in Jamshoro as two coal miners died after inhaling poisonous gas inside a mine.
According to police reports, the toxic gas accumulated deep within the mine as workers were digging, causing at least seven miners to lose consciousness. Moosa Bhatti and Abdul Rasheed succumbed to the gas.
Rescue teams arrived, evacuated and shifted the victim to a nearby hospital. Sadly, two miners died during treatment, while two others remain in critical condition.
Sources indicate that due to the contractual system in the Sindh Lakra Coal Mines, accidents are frequent due to negligence and failure to adhere to mine safety regulations. Concerns have been raised regarding the alleged inaction of the officials against companies and contractors who violate the rules.
