PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday extended the protective bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member National Assembly Muhammad Iqbal Afridi and barred authorities from arresting him. The court also issued a notice to the federal government and sought details of the cases registered against him.
A two-member bench comprising Acting Chief Justice S M Attique Shah and Justice Muhammad Ijaz Khan heard the case.Representing the petitioner, advocate Bashir Khan Wazir informed the bench that Iqbal Afridi was a PTI MNA and several cases had been registered against him in Islamabad and Punjab.
The lawyer argued that his client wanted to attend the National Assembly sessions but fears imminent arrest. Upon inquiry by the chief justice about his return from Islamabad, Iqbal Afridi informed the court that he had traveled there on the 29th, but returned when the Punjab police arrived there to arrest him.
The petitioner’s lawyer prayed the court to direct authorities to provide complete details of the cases filed against the petitioner so he could appear before the relevant courts.
