Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has welcomed the ceasefire accord between Pakistan and India, describing it as “a victory for peace, and a triumph for all who desire stability in the region”.

A handout issued on Saturday quoted Shah as saying that the announcement has been met with widespread approval in Pakistan. “This ceasefire represents a significant step towards de-escalation, and creates an opportunity for both nations to prioritise dialogue.”

The chief executive also urged India to pursue peaceful resolutions to all outstanding disputes with Pakistan, including the Kashmir issue, through sustained dialogue and negotiations.

He lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for their role in maintaining national security. He specifically acknowledged the Pakistan Air Force, and also congratulated President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their leadership in achieving the ceasefire.

He expressed gratitude to friendly nations, particularly the United States, for their diplomatic efforts in facilitating the agreement. He also acknowledged the efforts of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for advocating for peace, and representing Pakistan’s position on the international stage.

Bunyanum Marsoos

Earlier in the day, before the ceasefire took effect, the CM had issued a statement expressing his unwavering support for Operation Bunyanum Marsoos of the Pakistan Armed Forces, and reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to its sovereignty and national security.

“Pakistan will not tolerate any infringement upon its sovereignty,” he stressed. “Any aggression will be met with a resolute and decisive response on all fronts.”

He conveyed his complete trust in the capabilities and professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces, praising their courage and unwavering dedication to protecting the nation. “The entire nation stands united in its support of our armed forces, and we salute their bravery and sacrifice.”

He emphasised the sense of national pride inspired by Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. “The enemy’s aggression will be met with a response that is both proportionate and unequivocal.”

Highlighting the potential for regional instability, he said India’s escalating war rhetoric poses a significant threat to peace in the region. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace while simultaneously emphasising its resolve: “Pakistan is a peace-loving and responsible nation, but we will never compromise on matters of national security.”

He called upon the United Nations as well as the international community to take immediate cognisance of India’s provocative actions, and to work towards de-escalation.

“The people of Sindh stand shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistan Army,” he affirmed, commending the retaliatory strikes on Indian airbases as a demonstration of national resolve and self-assurance. “Delivering a befitting response to the enemy was not only appropriate but also essential to safeguarding our national interests.”

PML-N rally

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday evening held a torch-bearing rally from Numaish Chowrangi to Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi to express solidarity with the Pakistan Army and support its efforts in defending the nation against enemy forces from India.

Participants in the rally carried national flags and chanted patriotic slogans, demonstrating unity with the armed forces and their dedication to safeguarding the country's sovereignty.
