ABAD chairman vows full support for crackdown against portion mafia
Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting on Monday at his office to formulate a coordinated strategy against illegal constructions and the growing influence of the portion mafia in the city.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD), Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Development Authority (KDA), police, Additional Commissioner Syed Ghulam Mehdi Shah, and Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso. All other deputy commissioners participated via video link.
Naqvi collected feedback from all departments and instructed them to take decisive action, particularly in the Central and East districts, where illegal construction activity and the portion mafia are reportedly rampant “These unlawful constructions not only pose a serious threat to human lives but also severely damage the city’s infrastructure,” said Naqvi. “This issue demands immediate and coordinated attention.”
He also announced a follow-up meeting scheduled for June 4 to assess progress on the directives issued. ABAD Chairman Hassan Bakshi assured full cooperation from the builders’ association in the campaign against illegal constructions.
The commissioner stressed the need for interdepartmental coordination and urgency in addressing the issue. He is also scheduled to visit District Central today to review ongoing development projects and preside over a related meeting.
