Crackdown on electricity thieves

Islamabad:As part of the ongoing crackdown on electricity theft, Iesco has carried out effective operations across the region, imposing fines on electricity thieves and leading to dozens of police cases being registered, says a press release.
Under the directives of IESCO Chief Executive Muhammad Naeem Jan, Iesco’s operational teams are conducting surprise meter inspections in various areas on a daily basis. During the campaign 5,124 electricity thieves were caught, 4,684 of them were found stealing electricity directly, 442 meters found tampered. Legal action was taken against the culprits, resulting in the arrest of 2,612 electricity thieves by the police, and fines amounting to over Rs436.7m were imposed.
