Outdated teaching

I am truly disappointed by the dilapidated state of our education system. Children are neither enjoying the learning process nor gaining meaningful knowledge. Almost every school in Karachi, except for the so-called ‘elite schools’, relies on outdated teaching methods. While the rest of the world is shifting from teacher-centred learning (where instruction is dominated by the teacher and students are passive recipients) to student-centred learning (where students actively participate and take responsibility for their education), Karachi’s schools remain stuck in conventional and ineffective approaches.

This lack of active participation diminishes student motivation and interest. Sadly, the amount of training our teachers receive is woefully inadequate and, as a result, they are ill-equipped to foster meaningful learning experiences and rely on outdated knowledge-transfer models that ignore student agency in learning. The education authorities must train and encourage teachers to promote active student participation.
