JI demands federal govt pay outstanding dues of retired Fuuast employees
Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Monem Zafar has demanded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the federal education minister resolve the issue of retired professors and other employees of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuusat) who have reportedly been deprived of their pensions for the past five months and other dues since 2017.
The JI leader made the demand while talking with a delegation of retired Fuuast teachers and other employees who called on him at the Idara Noor-e-Haq.
The delegation, led by retired Prof Tauseef Ahmed, told the JI leadership that there had been Rs60.7 million in the Fuuast accounts for retired employees, yet the university was reluctant to pay several dues since 2017 and pensions to the retired employees for the past five months.
He said that at least eight retired employees had died while waiting for their dues. He added that the varsity was also negating clear instructions by the federal ombudsman in this regard.
Zafar assured the retired Fuuast teachers that the JI would pursue their case and fight for their due rights.
He criticised both the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for violating the due rights of Karachiites while enjoying perks and privileges in the Centre.
He added that the Urdu college was granted the status of a university some 23 years ago and it was duly expected that its campuses would be opened across the country.
He lamented that instead of promoting the university, the government had let go all the contract employees through a notification.
