LAHORE: Islamabad United’s stand-in captain, Agha Salman, acknowledged his team’s shortcomings following their six-wicket loss to Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 at Gaddafi Stadium on Friday night.

Despite posting 143/9 in 20 overs, Islamabad was unable to defend the target, as Zalmi successfully chased 144 in 16.4 overs, with six wickets remaining and 20 balls to spare.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Salman Ali dismissed any notion that United had relaxed, instead stressing the lack of quality cricket in their last two fixtures.

“It’s not that we relaxed. We just haven’t played quality cricket in the last two games, and that’s why we lost.”

Salman also addressed concerns over Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan’s injury, noting that it was too early to assess its severity.

“I don’t know the status of Shadab’s injury because it’s too early to say.”

Emphasizing continuous improvement, Salman underlined the team’s commitment to overcoming mistakes.

“We’re trying to overcome our mistakes.”

Discussing selection and squad dynamics, he reaffirmed that he and the selectors were carefully monitoring emerging players.

“PSL is Pakistan’s prime tournament, and as a captain, I am also watching the performances of youngsters. I am sure that selectors are watching as well.”

Salman revealed that Islamabad United had been making adjustments even during their winning run, highlighting the tournament’s length and the need for adaptability. “We were making changes even when we were winning because it’s a long tournament.”

Despite back-to-back losses, Salman dismissed any concerns over playoff qualification, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back. “There’s no panic at all. Yes, we’ve lost two but won five, so we have ample matches to make a comeback.”
