Nepra approves licence transfer to ISMO
This move marks critical step toward establishment of competitive private power market in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved the transfer of transmission and market operation licence from the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) to the newly formed Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) of Pakistan (Guarantee) Limited — a merged entity comprising CPPA-G, the Market Operator, and NPCC, the System Operator. This move marks a critical step toward the establishment of a competitive private power market in Pakistan.
This is a paradigm shift in the existing power sector structure as the competitive wholesale electricity market or competitive trading bilateral contract market (CTBCM) regime is going to be introduced, top officials of the power regulator told The News.
