IGP orders elimination of drug mafia, its nexus in Sindh
Sindh Police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Wednesday during a meeting held at the Central Police Office Karachi ordered the police to eliminate drug mafias and their nexus in the province.
The meeting was attended by Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, DIGs of Crime and Investigations, Headquarters, Special Branch, CIA, Investigations Karachi, IT, Zonal and Divisional DIGs, district SSPs including SPs Investigations.
IGP Memon instructed that steps should be taken to register money laundering cases against the wanted and absconding accused included in the list of drug peddlers and to issue red warrants for their arrests.
He said commendation should be given for excellent performance against crime while written departmental punishment should be ensured for unsatisfactory and poor performance. In addition, according to the lists of drug peddlers of categories A, B and C compiled by the Special Branch, the district police should ensure strict action against drug mafias in the relevant cities, including around educational institutions.
The DIG Special Branch gave a briefing on the drug mafia and the accused involved in their nexus in the province and the police action against them, while the AIG Operations informed the meeting about the dead, arrested and absconding accused involved in drug sales.
Additional IG Karachi Odho said that there is a need to tighten the noose around the families of fugitive suspects abroad who are involved in drug trafficking, while the actions against drug mafias have also yielded extraordinary results in the past.
The IGP further instructed the meeting to further accelerate the police crackdown against the drug mafias so that the results of police operations and action against drug mafias can be felt at the public and institutional levels.
He said that by the meeting to be held next week, all district officers will submit their reports on the actions and punishments against drug mafias and their nexus for review. He also asked the Special Branch, DIG Headquarters and AIG Operations to clarify the boundaries of police stations in the list of drug mafias, with the aim of making police action against such mafias effective and successful at the police station level.
He said experienced and expert investigation officers should be appointed to investigate drug cases and cases based on solid evidence should be presented in court. In addition, money laundering cases against drug peddlers who are included or not in the drug trafficking lists should be prepared and sent to the FIA.
He directed that a contingency plan with foolproof security should be prepared on the occasion of Eidul Azha and submitted for review. Meanwhile, action should be taken and investigations should be conducted against the accused involved in cattle theft last year to ensure prevention of cattle theft incidents.
