Cyber balance
Pakistan’s digital transformation is accelerating, with over 100 million internet users and a burgeoning IT sector. However, this rapid growth has outpaced the development of robust cybersecurity and data privacy frameworks, exposing vulnerabilities that threaten both individual rights and national security. Efforts to address cybercrimes and other threats themselves have also been criticised for government overreach, potentially violating civil liberties and stifling the free and open digital sector needed for innovation.
Pakistan must strike a balance between fostering innovation, ensuring national security and upholding civil liberties. This requires transparent policymaking, stakeholder engagement and adherence to international best practices in data protection and cybersecurity. Only through such a balanced approach can Pakistan harness the full potential of its digital future while safeguarding the rights of its citizens.
