The prime suspect in the Mustafa Amir murder case, Armaghan Qureshi, has been declared a fit and mentally stable person by a medical team, headed by Prof Dr Chooni Lal, head of the Department of Psychitary and Behavioural Sciences of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi.

Earlier, on April 24 the FIA, following a court order, presented under custody Armaghan Qureshi for a medical checkup at the JPMC. The counsel for Armaghan had claimed before the trial court that their client is mentally unstable. Following a psychiatric evaluation, a copy of which is available with The News, Dr. Chooni Lal officially declared Qureshi to be “mentally fit and stable”.

According to official sources, Armaghan underwent a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric assessment lasting several hours, A team of senior consultants conducted interviews, psychological tests, and observational evaluations before concluding that the suspect showed no signs of mental illness or instability. “He is fully aware of his surroundings, coherent in his speech, and capable of understanding the proceedings against him,” the medical report stated.

Dr Chooni Lal said the medical team did not found any evidence of any psychiatric morbidity at the time of evaluation. The FIA had requested the evaluation as part of standard procedure, given the gravity of the allegations and to preclude any claims of mental incapacity during legal proceedings.

Armaghan Qureshi’s name came into the spotlight earlier this month after the FIA initiated an investigation into allegations relating to financial irregularities, misuse of authority, and suspected collaboration with external entities. The agency claims that substantial evidence points to Qureshi’s involvement in unauthorized transactions and the unlawful transfer of sensitive information.

The FIA spokesperson reiterated the agency’s commitment to a transparent and impartial investigation, stating, “We are ensuring that all procedures, including medical evaluations, are completed meticulously to uphold the principles of justice.”
